Senior Database Developer (PostgreSQL)

Location: Ashburn, Virginia, United States; hybrid attendance required 1–2 days per week

Salary: $110,000–$150,000 per year; actual compensation may vary based on experience, location, and contractual requirements.

What you will do

• Create database structures, update existing structures, and manage data in large, complex databases.
• Develop data profiling, cleansing, staging, reporting, and ETL workflows.
• Write complex SQL, troubleshoot database issues, tune queries, and improve performance.
• Develop and maintain DDL, DML, and DCL scripts using PostgreSQL.
• Support AWS data migration, validation, data pipelines, CloudWatch, Kibana, and Dynatrace activities.
• Collaborate with database developers, administrators, program staff, and customers to make design decisions within project constraints.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of experience in database development roles.
• Hands-on PostgreSQL database development experience and strong complex SQL skills.
• Experience with SQL troubleshooting, performance tuning, data profiling, cleansing, staging, reporting, and ETL jobs.
• Experience writing DDL, DML, and DCL, plus Python scripting and Git/version control.
• AWS experience with data migration, validation, data pipelines, CloudWatch, Kibana, and Dynatrace.
• Active Public Trust clearance in DHS or a DHS component, with hybrid work in Ashburn 1–2 days per week. Strong communication, diplomacy, collaboration, and problem-solving skills are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with federal government clients and database administration.
• Experience with Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, MySQL, Teradata, Databricks, PySpark, Liquibase, or DMS.
• Experience with Agile methodology and Jira.
• Willingness to learn DB2 if not already experienced.
