Principal Engineer - Mechanical Development (Internal Combustion Engines)

Location: Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, United States

Salary: $103,200–$164,500 annually, plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Develop engine systems including valvetrains, pistons, connecting rods, balance systems, and bearings from concept selection through production.
• Advise on engine architecture for naturally aspirated, supercharged, and turbocharged spark-ignited engines.
• Guide system layout and component selection, including bore-stroke, valve train, piston, crank train, and timing drive decisions.
• Partner with component engineers, suppliers, and analysis teams to verify designs against system requirements.
• Develop DFMEAs and Design Validation Plans, execute testing, and document results.
• Lead design reviews, root-cause investigations, technical tradeoff decisions, innovation, and mentoring across the engine development organization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• 8+ years of progressive experience with internal combustion engines.
• Experience owning engine component or mechanical systems development.
• Broad understanding of engine system interactions and demonstrated ability to define and execute comprehensive DVPs.
• Ability to work at the Fond du Lac, Wisconsin location.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Proficiency with Creo or Pro/E and experience applying DFSS tools.
• Recognition as a technical leader in previous organizations.
• Knowledge of casting, forging, machining, injection molding, heat treatment, grinding, balancing, and assembly.
