VP of Engineering (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA; hybrid work model

Annual base salary: $345,000–$355,000, plus eligibility for a discretionary bonus and the Turn/River carry program.

What you will do

• Identify recurring, high-yield feature patterns in portfolio company backlogs that consume significant engineering capacity.
• Decompose feature patterns into agent task hierarchies, orchestration flows, and validation loops.
• Prototype production AI agents end-to-end on real backlog items and demonstrate their value.
• Use data and working demos to secure CTO and CPO support for agent development.
• Technically lead the agent team through architecture reviews, pairing, and quality standards.
• Track agent accuracy, engineering capacity freed, roadmap velocity, and defect rates, then apply learnings across portfolio companies.

Requirements

• 15+ years of software engineering experience with production systems personally designed, built, and shipped.
• Production experience building agentic AI systems, including orchestration, tool use, and debugging agent failures.
• Strong knowledge of LLM orchestration patterns and agent reliability.
• Ability to become productive in large, unfamiliar codebases within days or weeks.
• Experience with B2B or enterprise software, including on-premises systems, legacy architectures, and compliance constraints.
• Ability to communicate technical strategies to CTOs and executives while collaborating directly with engineers.
