Manager, Forward Deployed Engineering (AI)

Location: New York City, NY. Hybrid policy: staff are expected to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time. Travel to customer sites is required as needed, approximately 25–50% of the time.

Annual salary: $320,000–$405,000 USD.

What you will do

• Build, hire, develop, and retain a world-class Forward Deployed Engineering team.
• Set technical and operational standards for enterprise customer engagements and allocate engineering resources across the portfolio.
• Partner with account teams and Engagement Managers during pre-sales to qualify engagements, scope work, and inform statements of work.
• Review architectures and code while contributing to technical discovery, prototyping, and production debugging when needed.
• Create reusable playbooks, starter repositories, integration templates, and internal knowledge bases.
• Define team OKRs and operating cadences, and translate customer insights into product and engineering improvements.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, solutions architecture, forward deployed engineering, consulting, or a similar technical customer-facing role.
• 2+ years of people management experience in a services, post-sales, or Forward Deployed Engineering organization.
• Experience building an organization from 0 to 1 and hiring, developing, and retaining strong engineers.
• Experience delivering technical implementations directly with enterprise customers and navigating complex organizational dynamics.
• Executive presence with the ability to move between strategic stakeholder discussions and hands-on engineering work.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or professional experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• Experience defining operating standards and playbooks for a new engineering function.
• Strong interest in responsible development and enterprise adoption of frontier AI systems.
