Senior Application Engineer (Java)

Location: Mexico City, Mexico; hybrid work with at least three days per week in the office

What you will do

• Modernize and maintain large Java codebases to support evolving business needs.
• Develop new services and applications, including internet-facing APIs and microservices.
• Design database solutions using PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Oracle, or Cosmos DB.
• Architect loosely coupled systems using domain events and commands with RabbitMQ and Azure Service Bus.
• Review code, guide developers through technical challenges, and set engineering standards.
• Collaborate with business analysts, developers, and testers to deliver high-quality software.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a comparable technical field.
• 10+ years of hands-on software development experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Proficiency in Java 17, 21, or 25 and knowledge of current Java developments.
• Experience with microservices architecture, REST APIs, service design, Hibernate, and messaging systems such as RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus, or Kafka.
• Experience with database technologies, continuous integration infrastructure, and scripting on Linux or Windows.
• Strong code-writing, code-reading, code-reviewing, communication, and technical leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Public cloud experience, particularly with Azure.
• Kubernetes or Node.js experience.
• Frontend development with Angular or React.
• Insurance or reinsurance business knowledge.
• Experience with global distributed teams and Agile methodologies.
