Senior Microsoft Purview Security Engineer (Microsoft Purview)

Location: Remote; candidates must be located in the United States. Occasional work outside normal business hours may be required for major deployments, migrations, or maintenance.

What you will do

• Lead Microsoft Purview and data-protection projects from requirements gathering and solution design through testing, documentation, and production deployment.
• Deploy, administer, optimize, and troubleshoot Purview across Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Azure, endpoints, AWS, and other enterprise platforms.
• Design and maintain data-classification, sensitivity-labeling, encryption, DLP, retention, records-management, audit, and communication-compliance controls.
• Develop classifiers and automation for taxpayer information, financial data, PII, credentials, intellectual property, and other regulated data.
• Support eDiscovery workflows, legal holds, collections, searches, review sets, exports, and coordination with Legal and Privacy teams.
• Build dashboards, reports, documentation, evidence, training, and technical guidance for security, privacy, compliance, IT, cloud, application, and business stakeholders.

Requirements

• Five or more years of experience in security engineering, data security, data governance, Microsoft 365 administration, compliance engineering, or a related field.
• Hands-on enterprise experience deploying and administering Microsoft Purview, including Information Protection, sensitivity labels, DLP, Data Lifecycle Management, Records Management, Audit, and eDiscovery.
• Strong understanding of data classification, privacy, retention, encryption, least privilege, and compliance-control design.
• Experience administering Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID roles, permissions, groups, identities, and access controls.
• Experience implementing security and data-protection capabilities in Microsoft Azure and/or AWS, including controls for financial, tax, customer, or personally identifiable information.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, project-management, technical-documentation, communication, and independent-working skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in tax preparation, financial services, accounting, consulting, software, or another highly regulated organization.
• Familiarity with IRS taxpayer-data safeguarding guidance, the FTC Safeguards Rule, and written information security plan requirements.
• Experience with Microsoft Defender XDR, Defender for Cloud Apps, Microsoft Sentinel, CrowdStrike Falcon, SaaS applications, cloud storage, data platforms, or custom applications.
• Familiarity with APIs, Microsoft Graph, infrastructure as code, configuration management, and relevant Microsoft certifications such as SC-400, SC-300, or MS-102.
