Staff Security Application Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, with a hybrid work model. Similar positions may also be located in Scottsdale, San Francisco, or New York. Applicants must already be eligible to work in the United States for any employer; visa sponsorship is not available.

Base pay: $149,000–$182,000 per year in Phoenix or Chicago; $178,000–$218,000 per year in San Francisco.

What you will do

• Design, deploy, implement, and optimize proxy and data loss prevention solutions.
• Act as the subject matter expert for proxy and DLP technologies, advising engineering teams, stakeholders, and leadership.
• Integrate Microsoft, Palo Alto, and Netskope security solutions into existing and new network environments.
• Design and test security controls in collaboration with audit, compliance, security, and governance teams.
• Monitor the health, performance, and reliability of proxy and DLP systems and support incident investigations.
• Maintain architecture diagrams, operational procedures, control test results, and troubleshooting documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 8 years of progressive network security engineering experience, including 5 years with proxy and DLP solutions.
• Experience with financial institutions and regulatory requirements, including control testing and audit collaboration.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Defender, Palo Alto Prisma Access, and Netskope.
• Strong knowledge of HTTP/HTTPS and SOCKS proxy protocols, DLP principles, firewalls, secure web gateways, SASE, and Zero Trust architectures.
• Strong PowerShell or Python scripting, analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills; background and drug screening required.

Nice to have

• CISSP, Palo Alto PCNSE, Microsoft SC-200, Netskope NCCSA, or similar certification.
• Experience migrating from traditional proxy services to cloud-based solutions.
• Knowledge of PCI DSS, NIST, ISO 27001, and NYDFS standards.
