TL;DR
Chassis Controls System Engineer (Embedded Automotive Software): Developing, integrating, validating, and releasing safety-critical embedded software for commercial vehicle braking, steering, suspension, propulsion, and stability control systems with an accent on vehicle motion control architecture, functional safety, and cybersecurity. Focus on designing control strategies, integrating supplier software, executing MIL/SIL/HIL verification, diagnosing vehicle issues, and supporting production launches and OTA updates.

Location: New Hudson, Michigan, United States; routine shift hours with up to 20% travel for suppliers, prototype builds, vehicle testing, manufacturing launches, and customer visits.

Pay range: $79,300–$126,900 per year.

What you will do

  • Develop, integrate, validate, and release embedded software for electronic braking, stability control, anti-lock braking, traction control, electric power steering, and vehicle motion controllers.
  • Define vehicle motion control architecture, system requirements, control strategies, software architecture, and interface specifications.
  • Coordinate with systems, controls, hardware, calibration, cybersecurity, functional safety, validation, powertrain, ADAS, autonomy, and supplier engineering teams.
  • Drive software quality through design reviews, requirements traceability, static analysis, automated testing, continuous integration, and disciplined release management.
  • Develop diagnostics, service functions, software updates, and OTA capabilities while analyzing defects, DTCs, and vehicle performance issues.
  • Support prototype builds, software flashing, calibration, vehicle testing, production launches, and field issue resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, software engineering, computer science, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience developing embedded automotive software and/or calibration.
  • Experience with embedded control systems, MATLAB/Simulink or ETAS ASCET, and requirements management tools such as DOORS or Jama.
  • Knowledge of CAN/CAN FD, LIN, Automotive Ethernet, UDS, DTCs, and automotive calibration tools.
  • Experience with software integration, debugging, root cause analysis, and strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Access to controlled goods and technologies may require qualification as a U.S. Person under ITAR or EAR regulations.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or 7+ years of embedded automotive software or calibration experience.
  • AUTOSAR, Vector CANoe/CANalyzer/CANape, ETAS INCA, Git, Jenkins, Jira, and Python scripting.
  • MIL, SIL, and HIL testing, ISO 26262, ISO/SAE 21434, Automotive SPICE, and Agile development experience.
  • Commercial or heavy-duty vehicle chassis experience.
