Vehicle Network and Diagnostics Validation Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Troy, Michigan, United States. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis. Travel of up to 20% is required.

Annual base pay: $108,877–$163,316 USD.

What you will do

• Develop vehicle communication requirements and manage the engineering, sourcing, and integration of communication solutions.
• Create and maintain CAN communication databases in DBC format and diagnostic content in CDD format.
• Design AUTOSAR-based serial communication protocols, ECU services, configurations, and interface layers.
• Define communication, homologation, traceability, fault-code, bootloader, and cybersecurity interface requirements.
• Develop and validate UDS diagnostic services for CAN-based modules against development and service tools.
• Work with communication-stack providers and vendors on UDS, CAN/CAN-FD, Ethernet, SPI, and LIN solutions for prototype and production ECUs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, computer engineering, computer science, systems engineering, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• 5+ years of experience with vehicle network architectures, ECU communication strategies, diagnostics integration, CAN, UDS, XCP, ISO 14229, ISO 15765, ISO 11898, and E2E communication protection.
• 5+ years of experience with automotive embedded software for ECU diagnostics, bootloaders, software flashing, FOTA updates, Secure Boot, and ECU cybersecurity.
• 3+ years of experience with automotive development and validation tools such as CANoe, CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy, ETAS tools, Wireshark, and EOL test platforms.
• Experience with DBC authoring, CDD diagnostic content, vehicle network integration, systems engineering, requirements management, verification, and validation.
• Experience delivering software in compliance with ISO 26262 Functional Safety Standards and ASPICE; Microsoft Office proficiency and strong cross-functional communication skills.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of automotive cybersecurity and functional safety standards including ISO/SAE 21434, ISO 24089, and ISO 26262.
• Experience with multi-core pre-emptive RTOS, AUTOSAR base software, and AUTOSAR configuration.
• Experience with C/C++ programming or Python scripting for automotive serial communication software.
• Expertise in CAN Network Management, vehicle power modes, ECU wake-up and sleep coordination, communication reliability, and power optimization.
