TL;DR
Facilities Technician II (HVAC/Utility Systems): Maintaining and repairing mechanical and utility systems across laboratory, pilot plant, and facility environments with an accent on HVAC, chillers, electrical systems, boilers, compressed air, and safety compliance. Focus on troubleshooting facility equipment, coordinating contractors and vendors, and ensuring cGMP-compliant operations in hazardous laboratory settings.

Location: San Diego, California, United States; on-site

Anticipated salary range: $28.34–$35.56 per hour

Support day-to-day facility operations, maintenance, and repairs for hirify.global's San Diego laboratory and pilot plant facilities.

What you will do

  • Perform daily checks, maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs for HVAC, chiller, vacuum pump, compressed air, electrical, boiler, and fume hood systems.
  • Complete minor drywall, plumbing, electrical, and building repairs, and assist with moving furniture and equipment.
  • Provide emergency on-call facility services and communicate with Security during facility events.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors on repairs, calibration, maintenance, and facility improvements.
  • Order spare parts and report routine and exceptional equipment events to the Lead Technician.
  • Work with Operations, Analytical Development, Chemical Development, EH&S, and Quality groups to maintain equipment and cGMP compliance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 2–3 years of relevant facilities repair experience.
  • Experience with minor electrical, plumbing, and building maintenance.
  • Ability and willingness to learn facility mechanical equipment, utility systems, cGMP requirements, and facilities procedures.
  • Effective written and verbal communication with colleagues, mechanics, vendors, and cross-functional groups.
  • Ability to work on rooftops, ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and in indoor and outdoor conditions with variable temperatures and noise.
  • Ability to work in a laboratory setting with hazardous and biohazardous materials, wear PPE, and lift or push/pull up to 50 lbs.
