Senior Underwriting Specialist (Excess Casualty)

Location: Lenexa, Kansas, United States; office attendance four days per week

What you will do

• Underwrite and manage a corporate accounts excess casualty book of business in line with underwriting guidelines.
• Exercise judgment, negotiate terms, and make real-time business decisions for complex and ambiguous risks.
• Assign and manage the work of a team of underwriters while supporting strategic initiatives and resolving operational issues.
• Collaborate with brokers, distribution teams, territory managers, other lines of business, insureds, and outside counsel.
• Monitor underwriting requirements, pricing, profitability, deal structures, and portfolio performance.
• Build long-term broker and client relationships to grow the book of business profitably and manage special underwriting projects.

Requirements

• 7–9 years of experience in a commercial insurance company, agency, or brokerage.
• Advanced knowledge of North American casualty lines, including excess or primary casualty, auto, workers’ compensation, environmental, general liability, and related products.
• Experience with sales, marketing, relationship building, and professional client relationships.
• Very strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to a dynamic environment, collaborate across functions, and deliver solutions quickly.
• Expertise with underwriting analytical tools and technology.
