Senior Underwriter (Insurance)

Location: Hybrid role based in Scottsdale, Arizona, United States; agency visits and limited company travel required.

Salary: USD $79,000–$103,000 per year

What you will do

• Underwrite and process assigned commercial renewal policies, including risk selection, pricing, policy changes, and renewals.
• Apply coverage forms, rating plans, underwriting guidelines, predictive modeling, and company standards to individual risks.
• Respond to agents and customers, explain coverage and underwriting decisions, and adjust policy information within delegated authority.
• Collaborate with agents, account management staff, internal teams, and other departments to grow and maintain a profitable book of business.
• Analyze profit, growth, and premium retention by territory and agency, including cross-selling additional coverage and services.
• Coach less experienced underwriters, provide product and system training, and participate in projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of commercial underwriting experience preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication, influencing, negotiation, problem-solving, decision-making, and workflow management skills.
• Ability to build relationships with internal and external customers and effectively coach and mentor others.
• Proficiency with desktop, automated underwriting, email, and reporting systems.
• Valid state-issued driver's license in good standing and ability to drive for company travel.
• College degree preferred; INS, AU, CIC, or CPCU coursework or certification strongly preferred.
