Senior Electrical Engineer (Power Generation)

Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States; less than 10% travel for client and vendor meetings and project site visits.

What you will do

• Lead electrical design and owner's engineering activities for utility-scale power generation and renewable energy projects.
• Develop power generation and distribution systems, protection and motor control designs, power system studies, and equipment specifications.
• Design balance-of-plant systems including raceways, lighting, grounding, instrumentation and controls, and life safety systems.
• Support renewable energy, PV, distributed energy resource, microgrid, and battery energy storage system projects.
• Direct engineering professionals, mentor staff, and lead work on multidisciplinary consulting teams.
• Support project reviews, client relationships, proposals, technical writing, fee builds, and work breakdown structures.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering; a master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems Engineering with an Electrical Power emphasis is preferred.
• At least 10 years of experience; 15+ years in electrical power generation and renewable energy design is preferred.
• Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the position's location, such as a PE or P.Eng license.
• Extensive experience with three-phase electrical power, protection and control design, settings development, system grounding, physical design, and power project execution.
• Field experience including startup and commissioning, plus proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard power-sector design software.
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to work independently or lead small and multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with renewable energy, PV, BESS, DER, or microgrid projects.
• Experience with DCS and PLC systems.
• Previous experience with an engineering power consulting firm.
• Willingness to grow into a team lead or section manager role.
