TL;DR
EHS Specialist (Safety and Environmental Compliance): Building and managing safety, occupational health, and environmental compliance programs for a distribution center and two additional locations with an accent on incident prevention, regulatory compliance, and workforce training. Focus on conducting risk assessments, investigating incidents, coordinating emergency response, managing hazardous waste and workers’ compensation claims, and improving processes through Lean Six Sigma.

Location: Brownsburg, Indiana, United States; onsite. Occasional travel required at approximately 20%, including support for locations in Fresno, California and Suwannee, Georgia. Relocation is available.

Salary: $86,500–$126,800 annually, plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.

What you will do

  • Develop, implement, and manage safety programs aligned with Mercury standards and the hirify.global Safety Management System.
  • Train hourly and salaried employees and promote workforce engagement in safety activities.
  • Lead workplace audits, safety week activities, job safety analyses, and process risk assessments.
  • Investigate incidents, coordinate corrective actions, manage workers’ compensation claims, and serve as emergency response coordinator.
  • Provide EHS support to the Brownsburg, Fresno, and Suwannee locations and partner with site leadership and Human Resources.
  • Manage environmental compliance programs, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, SPCC requirements, sustainability initiatives, and Tier II reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in health and safety, engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a safety, health, or environmental role within a distribution or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of regulatory requirements, including IOSHA, IEPA, and FM Global standards.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, plan and prioritize, and adapt methods as needed.
  • Applicants must already be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles and methodologies.
  • OSHA VPP experience.
