TL;DR
EHS Specialist (Chemical Manufacturing): Leading environmental, health, safety, security, and sustainability programs at a chemical manufacturing facility with an accent on regulatory compliance, employee safety, environmental stewardship, and industrial hygiene. Focus on conducting exposure assessments, supporting PSM and HAZOP activities, investigating incidents, managing permits and hazardous waste, and implementing corrective actions across plant operations.

Location: Simpsonville, South Carolina, USA; onsite. The plant operates five days per week, 24 hours per day, and the role requires up to 10% travel to other facilities and corporate audits.

Salary: $85,000–$125,000 per year, depending on experience.

What you will do

  • Lead site environmental, health, safety, security, and sustainability management systems and corporate programs.
  • Develop and deliver employee safety and environmental compliance training, lead the facility Safety Team, and promote employee engagement.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, accident and near-miss investigations, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Manage environmental permits, inspections, sampling, reporting, hazardous waste activities, and sustainability requirements.
  • Perform industrial hygiene assessments, exposure monitoring, chemical hazard evaluations, and recommend engineering, administrative, and PPE controls.
  • Support Process Safety Management, HAZOP reviews, process hazard assessments, Management of Change, capital projects, and process modifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DHS, Responsible Care, Risk Management Programs, Process Safety Management, and related regulations.
  • Experience developing and delivering EHS training and conducting incident investigations with corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of U.S. security regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Strong project management, leadership, communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work onsite in a chemical manufacturing environment, wear required PPE, walk and stand frequently, climb stairs, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

Nice to have

  • Experience in chemical manufacturing or another highly regulated industrial environment.
  • Experience with industrial hygiene assessments, exposure monitoring, environmental permitting, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Familiarity with HAZOP, Management of Change, PSM, regulatory compliance audits, SWPPP, SPCC, and NAD stormwater management.
  • CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM, or similar professional certification.
