Design Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Dundee, United Kingdom; onsite role with domestic and international travel required.

What you will do

• Create detailed cable, connector, contact, insulator, and latching mechanism designs using 3D or 2D CAD.
• Lead the development of interconnect solutions and support complex designs with senior engineering colleagues.
• Coordinate functional and non-functional prototype construction with internal and external vendors.
• Lead or support design reviews using calculations, experiments, and research.
• Support new product introduction, manufacturing tooling adjustments, existing products, and design testing.
• Perform FMEA risk analysis in accordance with AS9100 requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• 5–7 years of experience in the military and aerospace industry.
• Working knowledge of CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
• Knowledge of ANSYS, FEA, Moldflow or equivalent tools.
• Knowledge of polymeric materials, metals, coatings, and electrical engineering principles.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Nice to have

• Hands-on prototype development, including rapid prototyping.
• Experience with coaxial and fiber optic connectors, sealing, shielding, transmission lines, and digital signal transmission.
• Knowledge of high-frequency RF applications up to 40 GHz.
• Experience with PCB assembly, Surface Mount Technology, Pick and Place, IR Reflow, BGAs, soldering, platings, and specifications.
• Experience with ESA, NASA, or Department of Defense electronics design, root cause analysis, and project management techniques.
