Senior Platform DevEx Engineer (DevOps)

Location: Bethesda, Maryland, United States; onsite and/or remote work available

Salary: $150,000–$250,000 per year, commensurate with experience and location.

What you will do

• Build and maintain developer experience tools and platform systems used across NCBI.
• Configure GitLab CI pipelines, reusable templates, and components for applications written in languages including C++, Scala, Kotlin, and Python.
• Develop Python applications, scripts, and libraries for build and deployment management.
• Create Kubernetes deployment configuration templates with YTT and debug deployments on OpenShift and Anthos.
• Maintain project documentation in READMEs and Confluence.
• Lead smaller DevEx platform projects and deliver new capabilities.

Requirements

• 7+ years of direct professional experience.
• Strong coding fluency in at least one programming language, such as Python, C++, JavaScript/TypeScript, Kotlin, Scala, Golang, or Rust.
• Working knowledge of Linux systems and the command line.
• Familiarity with source control, CI/CD pipelines, package publishing, and containerization.

Nice to have

• Experience developing CLI applications and deploying web APIs to cloud services or Kubernetes.
• Experience with Kubernetes or Nomad and distributions or platforms such as OpenShift, Anthos, GKE, AKS, and EKS.
• Experience with observability tools, high-availability applications, multi-tenant Kubernetes clusters, service mesh, event buses, distributed computing, or secret management.
• Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
