Staff Software Engineer, Backend

Location: Austin, TX (onsite); a hybrid work schedule is also mentioned.

Base salary: $180,000–$220,000 per year, plus variable incentive compensation and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain backend systems, APIs, and services.
• Shape scalable, secure, and maintainable software architecture.
• Serve as the technical leader for the engineering team and guide design decisions.
• Lead code reviews and promote engineering standards and best practices.
• Mentor junior developers through feedback and technical coaching.
• Collaborate with product, design, and engineering leadership to deliver features and improvements.

Requirements

• 8–12+ years of software engineering experience with strong backend development expertise.
• Extensive experience designing, developing, and maintaining complex software solutions.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, and engineering best practices.
• Expertise with Spring and Hibernate, plus experience with SSO solutions such as SAML and OpenID.
• Experience with MySQL or another relational database management system.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the US; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or an equivalent field.
• Experience helping define product design and working in an agile development process.
