Engineering Manager (Fintech)

Location: Berlin, Germany; hybrid work with attendance at the Berlin campus 2 days a week

What you will do

• Lead the day-to-day work and development of a team of 6–10 backend engineers.
• Run 1:1s, performance cycles, hiring, and onboarding while building an inclusive and psychologically safe team culture.
• Participate in design reviews, architectural discussions, and RFC feedback to maintain a strong technical bar.
• Own team-level planning, prioritization, delivery, and blocker removal while balancing engineering quality with product velocity.
• Partner with product, data, and business stakeholders to shape the roadmap and communicate technical trade-offs.
• Maintain standards for code quality, testing, observability, reliability, incident response, and on-call health.

Requirements

• Proven experience managing engineering teams of 6 or more in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong background in distributed systems and technical judgment across JVM, Kotlin, and Java environments.
• Understanding of high-throughput Postgres and Kafka systems, observability, SLOs/SLIs, and CI/CD.
• Experience delivering complex cross-team projects using agile methodologies.
• Familiarity with financial systems, auditability, PCI-DSS compliance, and payment reliability requirements.
• Ability to communicate technical and business concepts clearly to stakeholders at different levels.
