Engineering Manager AI

Location: Wietmarschen-Lohne, Germany; home office possible

What you will do

• Manage a distributed team of Machine Learning Engineers and Data Scientists through regular 1:1s, development goals, performance reviews, and career growth.
• Build a high-trust team culture across countries and time zones, supporting transparency, ownership, and continuous learning.
• Support delivery cadence, remove blockers, and drive engineering standards covering CI/CD, code review, cloud automation, monitoring, and documentation.
• Identify process gaps and implement improvements that increase delivery effectiveness.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders in Germany, the Netherlands, the US, and the UK.
• Contribute to technical discussions, architectural decisions, and AI/software leadership topics.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience including AI/ML, with 3+ years in people leadership or team management.
• Experience managing cross-disciplinary engineering teams and distributed or remote teams.
• Strong coaching, feedback, performance-management, communication, and organizational skills.
• Fluent German and English required; Dutch is a plus.
• Degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
• Entrepreneurial mindset and servant-leadership approach.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with AI/ML systems in production.
• Experience in industrial, safety-critical, or regulated environments such as oil and gas, subsea, energy, or defense.
• Familiarity with the EU AI Act or similar frameworks.
• Experience within a European parent organization.
