Senior UI/UX Front-End Design Lead (React)

Location: Reston, Virginia, United States (hybrid). US citizenship is required, and the candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust.

What you will do

• Serve as the UI/UX subject-matter expert and translate business requirements and UX strategy into intuitive, high-performing interfaces.
• Drive consistent usability and accessibility practices across programs, applications, and development teams.
• Establish reusable component libraries and design systems using Bootstrap, Material UI, and Trussworks.
• Create high-fidelity prototypes and wireframes, conduct usability testing, and validate designs with development teams.
• Provide final UI/UX review and sign-off for applications built with React, Microsoft 365, Power Platform, ServiceNow, and other technologies before UAT and rollout.
• Lead modernization, troubleshooting, performance optimization, design-to-development workflow improvements, and coaching for frontend teams.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of hands-on UI/UX design and implementation experience, including work with development teams.
• 3–5 years of experience leading design initiatives across multiple applications or cross-functional teams.
• Advanced proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, and design tools such as Figma or Adobe Creative Suite.
• Experience with scalable, component-based design systems, React, and Power Platform.
• Strong knowledge of Section 508 and WCAG accessibility standards, frontend performance, and application scalability.
• Experience in Agile and DevSecOps environments, with strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder-influence skills; an enterprise UI/UX portfolio is required.

Nice to have

• Degree in Human–Computer Interaction and Design or a related field.
• Experience leading frontend modernization or transformation initiatives.
• Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and CI/CD integration for frontend deployments.
• Experience with USWDS and federal or regulated environments.
