Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA; onsite five days per week

Base salary: $280,000–$350,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Mentor engineers, review pull requests, pair with junior developers, and recruit Senior and Staff-level engineering talent.
• Align engineering work with the product roadmap, provide business context, and remove organizational blockers.
• Partner with Operations, Product, and Clinical leadership to translate medical and regulatory workflows into pragmatic technical roadmaps.
• Guide the use of AI-assisted development and audit output for edge cases, performance bottlenecks, system quality, and HIPAA compliance.
• Build a high-ownership engineering culture through feedback, performance management, and experience-appropriate autonomy.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of formal engineering management experience.
• Background as a Senior or Staff Engineer with experience building and operating high-stakes distributed systems.
• Ability to read complex codebases, review architectures, and guide technical decisions and trade-offs.
• Experience managing teams in regulated, operationally complex industries such as healthcare, fintech, or logistics.
• Strong product sense and cross-functional communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Willingness to work in the San Francisco office five days per week.

Hiring process

• 30-minute remote recruiter introduction.
• 45-minute remote leadership screen with the Head of Engineering.
• 2.5-hour remote technical and architecture interview, followed by a 2-hour-15-minute onsite team meeting with engineers and cross-functional leaders.
• Total interview time is approximately six hours, with a possible first-call-to-offer timeline of two weeks.
