TL;DR
Staff Platform Engineer (AI): Building and operating core platform primitives including a federated GraphQL front door, event substrate, identity layer, and real-time care state model with an accent on distributed systems, reliability, security, and HIPAA compliance. Focus on designing quality gates for agent-written code, orchestrating multi-system delivery, and defining scalable platform patterns adopted by product engineering teams.
Location: Remote, United States; availability during core meeting hours from 12PM to 5PM EST
Salary: $185,000–$265,000 per year in target base compensation, with potential stock options and other benefits.

What you will do
- Own one or more platform primitives from architecture and implementation through production operation and long-term evolution.
- Build automated end-to-end testing, golden datasets, specification templates, and schema-change safeguards for agent-written code.
- Design cross-service patterns and paved roads that product engineering teams can adopt during the platform migration.
- Write technical specifications covering invariants, error cases, security implications, and acceptance criteria, and orchestrate agent swarms for complex multi-system work.
- Define SLOs, observability standards, incident response practices, and reliability conventions while participating in on-call.
- Steward security, compliance, operating costs, and architecture decision records for the owned domain.
Requirements
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, including several years designing and operating distributed systems or platform components used by other teams.
- End-to-end expertise in at least one area: GraphQL federation, real-time stream processing, graph databases, or ReBAC/RBAC authorization systems.
- Practical experience using AI agents, skills, MCPs, harnesses, agentic tooling, or agent orchestration for software development.
- Experience with data modeling for systems of record and safe schema changes against live production data.
- Proficiency with TypeScript and/or Python services, Postgres, and AWS managed primitives.
- Experience leading multi-engineer, multi-quarter workstreams without direct people-management authority and operating production-critical systems in a regulated environment.
Nice to have
- Kafka experience, including schema governance and production operation.
- Healthcare data standards such as FHIR or HL7v2 and HIPAA-regulated engineering experience.
- Experience with strangler-fig migrations, large platform cutovers, platform teams, or developer experience teams.
- Fluency in domain-driven design or event storming.
