Technical Director (Satellite Control)

Location: On-site in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States, with travel to Colorado Springs, Colorado, and periodic vendor or mission-site travel as required.

Salary: $230,000–$290,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Lead acquisition strategy for a critical Satellite Control capability covering TT&C, prototype sequencing, contracting, funding, competition, transition, and fielding.
• Translate urgent mission outcomes into measurable requirements, decision evidence, time-to-field targets, production goals, and executable acquisition actions.
• Drive trade-space decisions across mission effect, performance, cost, schedule, integration complexity, cybersecurity, interoperability, and scalability.
• Design rapid experiments, demonstrations, knowledge points, exit criteria, and off-ramps to identify risks before prototype commitment.
• Establish modular open architecture, open interfaces, data-rights objectives, and replaceable capability increments to preserve competition and reduce vendor lock-in.
• Coordinate acquisition, contracting, finance, operations, intelligence, communications, engineering, test, cybersecurity, logistics, and industry stakeholders through transition milestones.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, software engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering management, or a related technical discipline.
• At least 15 years of relevant professional experience and a recognized technical reputation influencing high-consequence mission and acquisition decisions.
• Demonstrated experience creating or executing acquisition strategies during concept maturation, pre-prototype planning, rapid prototyping, or another early phase of a complex defense, intelligence, space, or mission capability.
• Technical depth in mission architectures, operational threads, interfaces, data flows, modularity, interoperability, transition constraints, and integration risk.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including presenting options and recommendations to senior leaders and documenting defensible decisions.
• Active Secret security clearance and U.S. citizenship required.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a related technical, acquisition, analytics, or engineering management discipline.
• Experience with Satellite Control, TT&C, space-ground integration, command and control, mission management, or space mission systems.
• Experience with U.S. Space Force, Space Systems Command, Space Operations Command, or another DoD acquisition organization.
• Experience with commercial-first sourcing, COTS evaluation, Commercial Solutions Openings, Other Transaction pathways, competitive prototyping, or non-traditional suppliers.
• Current Top Secret or TS/SCI eligibility, DAU acquisition credentials, digital threads, digital twins, or AI-enabled analytics experience.
