Technical Director, AI Decision Systems

Location: Remote, USA; US citizenship required. Remote-first with occasional travel of up to 25% to DEFCON AI headquarters, customer sites, and vendor facilities.

Salary: $220,000–$260,000 per year, plus bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Lead a cross-functional delivery organization spanning product, design, software engineering, data, AI, analytics, DevSecOps, cybersecurity, and quality engineering.
• Own technical strategy, architecture, execution, and delivery from discovery through operational deployment.
• Translate mission needs and product priorities into technical plans, release objectives, and engineering decisions.
• Integrate software, data, AI, infrastructure, security, and quality into one secure, explainable, operational capability.
• Identify technical risks and dependencies, resolve ambiguity, and align delivery across multiple teams and specialties.
• Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing technical organization while partnering with customers and external stakeholders.

Requirements

• Significant accomplishment in software engineering, AI/ML, data systems, analytics, DevSecOps, cybersecurity, product technology, or a comparable technical discipline.
• Experience leading complex technical efforts across multiple teams and specialties, including turning ambiguity into working systems and measurable outcomes.
• Experience delivering cloud-native software from concept through deployment and operations.
• Strong systems thinking, communication skills, leadership judgment, and the ability to review designs and challenge technical assumptions.
• US citizenship required.
• US Secret clearance is in scope; elevated security requirements apply to portions of the work.

Nice to have

• Active Top Secret clearance.
• Experience leading a zero-to-one product, platform, or mission capability.
• Experience in defense, intelligence, federal, or similarly regulated environments.
• Experience with AWS GovCloud, DevSecOps, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, RMF, ATO, or accreditation processes.
• Experience with AI/ML, large language models, analytics, graph technologies, data-intensive systems, or explainable decision-support systems.
