TL;DR
Computational Biologist (SRA Bioinformatics) (Genomics/Bioinformatics): Leading the lifecycle of bioinformatics data products supporting SRA sequence databases and genomic sequencing use cases with an accent on data analysis, user research, and data usability. Focus on developing product roadmaps, prioritizing Agile delivery, resolving stakeholder conflicts, and improving the impact of biomedical data.

Location: Full-time onsite at NIH-NCBI in Bethesda, Maryland, United States

What you will do

  • Lead the complete lifecycle of bioinformatics data products from discovery through delivery.
  • Lead data analysis and user research, translating findings into product requirements and objective decisions.
  • Define product vision, goals, strategic roadmaps, and execution plans.
  • Prioritize work and guide the product team in an Agile environment.
  • Build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to improve data usability and impact.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in bioinformatics, molecular biology, computational biology, data science, computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • Conceptual knowledge of genomics, molecular biology, and computational biology.
  • Practical knowledge of bioinformatics tools and applying genomic sequencing data to biomedical and scientific use cases.
  • Experience leading teams, setting goals, prioritizing work, and using metrics to measure success.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical and staffing roadblocks, mitigate risks, and resolve conflicting priorities among stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, networking, and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with SRA or similar sequence databases and next-generation sequencing data.
  • Postdoctoral investigator, Product Owner, or Product Manager experience.
  • Knowledge of FAIR data practices and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with AWS or GCP, scripting languages, large SQL databases, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with unit, integration, and regression testing.
