Associate Director of Bioinformatics (Women's Health and Organ Health)

What you will do

• Lead and mentor a team of Bioinformatics Scientists, setting responsibilities, standards, and professional-growth goals.
• Own research strategy and scientific planning for new diagnostic product development in partnership with R&D, Product, and laboratory leadership.
• Guide assay development, optimization, study design, technology assessment, and troubleshooting across methylation, fragmentomics, cfDNA, short-read, and long-read sequencing.
• Improve analysis methods for variant detection, quality control, methylation calling, fragment-size and end-motif analysis, error suppression, and structural-variant calling.
• Move research prototypes into stable production workflows using version control, testing, continuous integration and delivery, and containerization.
• Partner with data science, molecular biology, pipeline engineering, biostatistics, quality assurance, and laboratory operations, while establishing standards for responsible AI-assisted work.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Biostatistics, or a related field; an M.S. with equivalent experience may be considered.
• 7+ years of bioinformatics experience, including 3+ years leading scientists and working cross-functionally.
• Experience taking scientific research into clinical use and developing or scientifically guiding diagnostic sequencing assays.
• Deep expertise in next-generation sequencing analysis, target enrichment, sequencing quality control, secondary analysis, and variant calling.
• Experience with cfDNA sequencing, omics data, diagnostic product development in a regulated and accredited setting, and strong Python and data-analysis skills.
• Ability to communicate technical findings clearly, assess new platforms and assay methods, and manage multiple objectives independently.

Nice to have

• Long-read sequencing with PacBio HiFi or Oxford Nanopore, in addition to Illumina short-read sequencing.
• Experience with R, shell scripting, Java, AWS, GCP, Snakemake, WDL, Nextflow, or Cromwell.
• Experience with Docker or Kubernetes and reproducible production-grade analyses.
• Conference presentations or peer-reviewed publications.
