TL;DR
Director of Student Support (SPED/Diverse Learners) (Immediate & 26-27 SY) (Special Education): Leading academic, emotional, and physical support services for students with special education, English Language Learner, and at-risk service needs across KIPP Capital Region schools with an accent on staff development, coaching, IEP/504 implementation, and regulatory compliance. Focus on identifying student needs, coordinating evaluations and services, differentiating instruction, and ensuring classroom accommodations are implemented.

Location: Albany, NY, United States; the role is located at KIPP Capital Region schools and requires infrequent travel between schools.

Salary: $85,500–$94,500 per year, plus a $10,000 sign-on bonus.

What you will do

  • Lead academic, emotional, and physical support services for students requiring special education, English Language Learner instruction, or at-risk student services.
  • Coordinate professional development and coach special education coordinators, teachers, related-service providers, ELL instructors, and general education staff.
  • Support student identification, intake reviews, pre-referral and referral processes, classroom observations, psychological testing, and service coordination.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of IEPs and 504 plans, including accommodations, modifications, and direct services.
  • Collaborate with principals and school staff on recruitment, best-practice sharing, curriculum design, differentiated instruction, and cross-school protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports while ensuring compliance with state and federal special education requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Certification as a Special Education Teacher or Administrator.
  • At least four years of professional classroom experience with Special Education and/or ELL students.
  • Fluent English reading, writing, and speaking skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule outside regular business hours and travel infrequently between KIPP Capital Region schools.
  • Willingness and ability to complete a Criminal History Background Check.
