High School Special Education Teacher

Location: New York, NY, USA; full-time, in-person school role.

Salary: $72,000–$115,000 per year. Starting pay depends on teaching experience, education certifications, and tenure.

What you will do

• Modify, differentiate, and teach an inclusive curriculum that emphasizes diversity.
• Develop and monitor 504 plans and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) with families and Special Education teams.
• Manage an IEP caseload, collect academic growth data, write IEPs, and participate in IEP meetings.
• Deliver pull-out, push-in, small-group, and one-on-one instruction for diverse learners.
• Build supportive relationships with students and families and help provide appropriate learning resources.
• Collaborate with teachers and school leaders to analyze student work, support IEP compliance, and improve instructional outcomes.

Requirements

• Commitment to students’ social-emotional and academic development.
• Academic expertise in Special Education, Humanities, Social Sciences, STEM, or a related field.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required before employment begins.
• Must meet New York State teacher certification eligibility requirements and become certified in New York within a reasonable period after starting.
• If the degree is not in education, enrollment in a teacher preparation program and maintenance of a GPA of 2.5 or higher during employment are required.
• Interest in impacting K–12 students in urban schools and communities; 1–2 years of experience preferred.
