Microbiology Laboratory Technician (Microbiology)

Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; onsite

Salary: CAD 23–25 per hour

What you will do

• Prepare samples and perform membrane filtration analysis of water, soil, and other substrates using applicable SOPs and test methods.
• Prepare stock cultures and agars for microbiology testing.
• Enter analytical data into the LIMS system and report adverse drinking water results immediately to the Drinking Water Coordinator or designate.
• Perform regular instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Maintain laboratory housekeeping, consumables inventory, and supply requests.
• Follow the Biosafety Manual, Emergency Response Plan, Quality System, and Quality Assurance Manual.

Requirements

• University degree or college diploma in a biology-related field.
• WHMIS and safety training.
• Computer literacy and strong organizational skills.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Availability for a permanent full-time schedule of 37.5 hours per week, Tuesday through Saturday.

Nice to have

• Experience with microbiology testing.
• Experience with membrane filtration procedures.
• Experience working in a risk group level 2 pathogen laboratory.
• Knowledge of drinking water regulations, including O. Reg. 170/03 and O. Reg. 319/08.
