KIPP New Jersey operates free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools serving students in grades K–12 across Newark, Camden, and Paterson.

What you will do

  • Work alongside an experienced lead teacher to create lesson plans, teach lessons, reflect on instruction, and use assessment data to inform teaching.
  • Provide small-group instruction for elementary students.
  • Build positive relationships with students, families, and the wider school community.
  • Assist with diagnostic and progress-monitoring testing across the school.
  • Communicate consistently with families about student progress.
  • Participate actively in professional development throughout the two-year residency.

Requirements

  • Ability to become certified in New Jersey and pass the state licensure examination.
  • Either hold a valid New Jersey teaching certification or meet the applicable GPA requirements for certification eligibility.
  • For graduates after September 2016: a conferred bachelor’s or master’s GPA of at least 3.0, or a GPA between 2.75 and 3.0 with required Praxis exams passed with a +10% passing score.
  • For graduates before September 2016: a conferred bachelor’s or master’s GPA of at least 2.75.
  • Some experience working with children.
  • Commitment to working with students from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds and belief in every student’s potential.
