What you will do

• Teach an inclusive, culturally responsive English Language Arts curriculum focused on literature, writing, reading comprehension, and discourse.
• Guide students in analyzing literary and non-narrative texts, evaluating author purpose, writing across genres, and developing independent reading interests.
• Create a safe classroom environment that supports students’ authentic voices and social-emotional development.
• Analyze student work samples and assessments with school leaders and instructional coaches, then differentiate instruction.
• Build relationships with students and families and collaborate with grade-level teams to support learning goals.
• Participate in professional development, mentorship, coaching, and weekly school-wide meetings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university before employment begins.
• Academic expertise in Humanities, English, Social Sciences, or a related field.
• Commitment to supporting students’ social-emotional and academic development.
• Interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities; 1–2 years of experience is preferred.
• Must meet New York State certification eligibility requirements and become certified in New York within a reasonable period after starting.
• If the degree is not in education, enrollment in a teacher preparation program and maintenance of a GPA of at least 2.5 are required during employment.
