What you will do

• Teach a shared high school English Language Arts curriculum featuring inclusive literature and preparation for AP, SAT, and collegiate-level coursework.
• Guide students in analyzing literature, developing reading and writing skills, and participating in evidence-based discussions.
• Facilitate student-led discourse and help students synthesize and evaluate arguments and rhetoric.
• Analyze comprehension, writing, work samples, and assessment trends to adapt and differentiate instruction.
• Collaborate with department and grade-level teams on content, instructional strategies, and academic goals.
• Build supportive relationships with students and families and participate in coaching, mentorship, professional development, and school-wide meetings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university before employment begins.
• Academic expertise in Humanities, English, Social Sciences, or a related field.
• Demonstrated commitment to students’ social-emotional and academic development.
• Interest in supporting K–12 students in urban schools and communities; 1–2 years of experience is preferred.
• Certification is not required at hire, but candidates must meet New York State certification eligibility requirements.
• Candidates without an education degree must enroll in a teacher preparation program, maintain a GPA of at least 2.5, and become certified in New York State within a reasonable period after employment begins.
