Professional Engineer, Traffic Engineering

Location: Duluth, Minnesota; candidates must currently reside or plan to relocate within regular commuting distance of the office. Hybrid schedule: in office Tuesday–Thursday and work from home Monday and Friday. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.

Salary: $87,900–$130,000 per year, based on experience, qualifications, and responsibilities.

What you will do

• Lead traffic-related design and plan development for roundabouts, traffic signals, construction staging, maintenance of traffic, signing, striping, and lighting.
• Observe and collect traffic data and complete intersection, traffic, and corridor studies.
• Conduct traffic operations analyses using simulation and modeling software.
• Prepare preliminary and final designs, construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and technicians on complex transportation infrastructure projects.
• Participate in or lead project team meetings and client consultations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 5–8 years of related experience; the salary range reflects candidates with 5–15 years of experience.
• Registered as a Professional Engineer in Minnesota or able to obtain registration within six months of employment.
• Experience or interest in traffic design and plan development, including roundabouts, signals, staging, maintenance of traffic, signing, striping, and lighting.
• Strong working knowledge of CADD software such as MicroStation or AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare technically accurate specifications and reports.

Nice to have

• PTOE certification or interest in obtaining it.
• Design-build experience.
• Experience developing and evaluating transportation system and corridor alternatives.
• Experience with traffic operations analysis, forecasting, and modeling.
• Knowledge of Synchro/SimTraffic or VISSIM, plus project management or business development experience.
