Traffic Engineering Group Lead

Location: Fairfax, Virginia, or Washington, DC office; hybrid/flexible work arrangements

Salary: $143,435.23–$163,925.98 annually

What you will do

• Lead task orders and small to mid-sized traffic and transportation projects from planning through final design.
• Oversee traffic studies and design deliverables, including signal design, lighting, signing, pavement markings, construction staging, and MOT/TTC packages.
• Manage design production, schedules, budgets, scopes, staffing plans, and project phasing.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and prepare technical reports, specifications, cost estimates, and bid package materials.
• Mentor junior engineers and support technical quality, professional growth, and project delivery.
• Build client and agency relationships while supporting proposals, pursuit strategy, and business development.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Current Virginia PE license or ability to obtain Virginia reciprocity within 6 months of hire.
• Ideally 10 years of traffic engineering experience; candidates with 8+ years and strong design, project management, staff leadership, and transportation delivery experience are encouraged to apply.
• Experience with CAD/design tools such as MicroStation, Civil 3D, AutoTURN, or GuideSIGN.
• Familiarity with traffic analysis software such as HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, CORSIM, or SIDRA.
• Knowledge of MUTCD, the VDOT Road Design Manual, the Virginia Work Area Protection Manual, and ADA/PROWAG pedestrian design requirements.

Nice to have

• PTOE, RSP, or Virginia Advanced Work Zone Certification.
• Experience with TransCAD, CUBE, or AGi32.
