TL;DR
OPEX Co-Op (Lean/Six Sigma and Data Analytics): Supporting operational excellence projects in a regulated pharmaceutical site with an accent on process improvement, operational metrics, safety, quality, and cost efficiency. Focus on analyzing cycle time, yield, downtime, and WIP data, developing root-cause countermeasures, and building visual management dashboards for cross-functional teams.

Location: Full-time on-site in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, United States; 40 hours per week from January 2027 to January 2028.

What you will do

  • Support operational excellence and process improvement projects focused on reducing waste and improving flow, quality, safety, productivity, and cost efficiency.
  • Collect, cleanse, analyze, and visualize cycle time, yield, downtime, and WIP metrics to identify opportunities and quantify impact.
  • Assist with root cause analysis using 5 Whys and fishbone methods, develop countermeasures, and track implementation and sustainment.
  • Create and update standard work, value stream maps, process maps, visual management boards, and performance dashboards.
  • Facilitate cross-functional meetings and prepare project updates and presentation decks for collaborators and site leadership.
  • Support initiatives including the Johnson & Johnson Operating System, Smart Changeover and OEE deep dives, the Ideas Program, and Golden Batch deployment.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s program and eligible for a one-year Co-Op assignment.
  • Pursuing Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Business Analytics, or a related field.
  • Completed at least three years of undergraduate study and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, time-management, and prioritization skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and formulas; familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma concepts.
  • Must be permanently authorized to work in the United States and must not require current or future employment visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, process mapping, time studies, or Minitab and similar statistical tools.
  • Familiarity with regulated environments and quality frameworks such as cGMP and ISO.
  • Spanish and English proficiency for communication with site stakeholders.
