Transmission Line Engineer (Power)

Location: Portland, Oregon, United States; full-time position with site visits during design, construction, and as-built phases.

What you will do

• Prepare conceptual and detailed designs and technical deliverables for transmission lines of increasing complexity.
• Develop construction release packages, including plan and profile drawings, structure load trees, assemblies, stringing charts, foundation schedules, and bills of material.
• Conduct engineering analyses, develop design options, and provide input on project design issues, specifications, cost estimates, manhour estimates, and schedules.
• Assign tasks, guide junior engineers and designers, and coordinate quality-control reviews across project teams.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders and lead client meetings and design reviews.
• Perform site visits, field reviews, and construction observation while managing multiple projects against schedule and budget.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering; civil, mechanical, or a related field is preferred.
• Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the position location, such as a PE or P.Eng license.
• At least 4 years of transmission line engineering experience in the electric utility or renewables industry.
• Experience with PLS-CADD, transmission structure analysis, foundation design, and preparation of technical specifications and drawings.
• Knowledge of applicable industry codes, including NESC, IEEE, ASCE, and ACI.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and standard power-sector design software such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, or Revit, along with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with transmission line voltages from 69kV through 500kV; experience through 765kV is an added benefit.
• Experience working with renewables developers or renewable interconnection projects.
• Experience coordinating with environmental, real estate, construction, maintenance, substation, telecommunications, and project management stakeholders.
