Transmission Line Engineering Staff III (PLS-CADD)

Location: Houston, TX; also local to San Diego, CA, Lakewood, CO, Orlando, FL, or Fort Worth, TX

Salary: $90,000–$110,000 per year, negotiable based on qualifications and location

What you will do

• Design and analyze overhead transmission lines up to and including 500 kV using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER.
• Develop structure loading, framing, connection designs, sag-tension calculations, clearance analyses, and foundation loading calculations.
• Prepare and review plan-and-profile drawings, structure and material lists, and construction packages.
• Coordinate foundation design with structural and geotechnical staff and support field data collection, LiDAR modeling, and as-built verification.
• Collaborate across structural, civil, and environmental disciplines while interfacing with utility clients and supporting proposals, scopes, and estimates.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers, check technical work, and take ownership of design packages.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• 4–8 years of transmission line engineering experience.
• Professional Engineer license, or the ability to obtain one within 12 months.
• Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER.
• Working knowledge of the NESC, applicable ASCE standards, and utility design standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting major investor-owned utilities, owner’s engineering, or utility program-support work.
• Experience with grid hardening, wildfire mitigation, or reconductoring programs.
• For civil and structural candidates: foundation design, structural fabrication coordination, and detailed steel design of transmission and substation structures.
• For electrical candidates: transmission studies, hardware sizing, ampacity and shielding calculations, conductor sizing, and induction studies.
• Master’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering.
