Tool & Die Maker

Location: San Diego, California, United States; full-time onsite work

Salary: $28.35–$49.31 per hour

What you will do

• Plan operations and fabricate, assemble, rework, repair, and prove tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
• Set up and operate machine tools to produce tooling components and attachments.
• Investigate tooling failures and determine whether problems result from design, construction, materials, equipment, or manufacturing processes.
• Develop layouts, sketches, tool and material lists, work orders, and required production records.
• Coordinate with Manufacturing, Experimental, Tool Design, and Tooling personnel during setup, inspection, and tool modification.
• Recommend design improvements, material substitutions, and corrective actions to improve efficiency and reduce manufacturing cost.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• At least 5 years of experience setting up and operating manual lathes, surface grinders, jig bores, jig mills, ProtoTRAK mills and lathes, Wire EDM, and horizontal mills.
• Ability to machine tool components within .0005 inch or better and use precision gauges and measuring devices.
• Ability to read blueprints, datum lines, tolerances, GD&T, and CMM inspection reports.
• Knowledge of tool and material list development and advanced shop mathematics, including trigonometry.
• Willingness to work any shift; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• CNC and Mastercam experience.
• Previous Tool and Die Maker experience.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed.
