Finish Repair Technician (Fiberglass Boats)

Location: Vonore, Tennessee, United States; onsite, full-time

Salary: $21.85–$24.55 per hour for Tech I or $24.15–$27.05 per hour for Tech II.

What you will do

• Construct and repair fiberglass boat hulls, decks, and small parts.
• Use hand tools and specialty equipment, including gel-coat spray equipment, grinders, buffers, and drills.
• Inspect parts and identify defects, inconsistencies, and finish issues.
• Apply solvents, paints, pastes, putty, and wax while following proper disposal procedures.
• Follow job instructions, protect boat components, and report part-completion status.
• For Tech II, perform advanced gel-coat repairs and pass the internal skills test.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Working knowledge of hand tools and the ability to read prints and production schedules.
• Ability to handle suspended loads and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, adaptability, and strong attention to detail.
• Ability to follow PPE, OSHA, DEP, and workplace safety requirements.
• Tech II requires successful completion of an internal skills test covering gel-to-catalyst mixing and specified fiberglass surface repairs.

Nice to have

• 2–3 years of boat-building experience.
• Quality control or inspection experience in a manufacturing or marine environment.
• Experience with calipers, micrometers, coordinate measuring machines, and inspection documentation.
• Experience resolving quality issues and recommending corrective actions.
