TL;DR
Registered Engineer, Electrical (Facilities Engineering): Leading the design of safe, reliable, and efficient electrical systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities with an accent on power distribution, lighting, signal systems, and code compliance. Focus on managing electrical design from concept through construction, coordinating multidisciplinary facility projects, and supporting construction administration through shop drawing reviews and site inspections.

Location: Hybrid, with 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home. Available offices are Bloomington, Minnesota; Duluth, Minnesota; Downers Grove, Illinois; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Seattle, Washington.

Salary: $87,000–$122,000 annually for the Duluth office.

What you will do

  • Lead electrical system design for commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities from concept through construction.
  • Develop power, lighting, signal, electrical distribution, fire alarm, security, and data systems.
  • Coordinate electrical layouts with mechanical, civil, structural, and architectural professionals.
  • Support construction administration by answering contractor questions, reviewing shop drawings, and observing work for compliance.
  • Contribute to project meetings, client consultations, team coordination, and site inspections.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer registration in Minnesota, or the ability to obtain it within 12–18 months of employment.
  • At least four years of progressive experience designing power, lighting, and signal systems for government, educational, and industrial facilities.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code, Minnesota State Building Code, Minnesota Energy Code, and ASHRAE 90.1.
  • High proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD, plus familiarity with electrical calculation tools such as SKM PowerTools, ETAP, LightStanza, or Visual Lighting.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and interpersonal skills, with availability to travel up to 10% for meetings, consultations, and site visits.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing low- to medium-voltage distribution systems for industrial processes and campus facilities.
  • Experience with motor controls, soft starts, and variable frequency drives.
  • Business development experience, including proposal scoping, fee estimates, and interviews.
  • Interest in developing project management skills involving planning, budgeting, client communication, and team leadership.
