Electrical Engineer (Design)

Location: Hybrid role based in or requiring relocation to the Mid-Atlantic region, US; office location in Alexandria, Virginia.

Salary: $100,000–$140,000 annually.

What you will do

• Design electrical systems for transit stations, maintenance facilities, operations centers, passenger buildings, parking structures, and other transportation facilities.
• Develop low- and medium-voltage distribution, normal and emergency power, lighting, grounding, bonding, and electrical equipment layouts.
• Perform load, voltage drop, short-circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, and lighting photometric calculations.
• Prepare technical specifications, reports, construction drawings, and design documentation.
• Coordinate with architectural, structural, mechanical, civil, communications, fire protection, systems engineering, utility, client, contractor, and public agency stakeholders.
• Support construction through RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits, technical issue resolution, design reviews, and QA/QC.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• 5+ years of experience designing building electrical systems for transportation, transit, aviation, institutional, commercial, or other large public infrastructure projects.
• Experience with low-voltage and medium-voltage systems, interior and exterior lighting, emergency power, grounding, and bonding.
• Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IEEE standards, energy codes, and lighting standards.
• Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, AGi32, Visual Lighting, ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or similar electrical analysis software, along with strong communication and coordination skills.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting transit agencies such as WMATA, MDOT MTA, VRE, Amtrak, or similar public transportation clients.
• Experience mentoring junior designers and CAD/BIM staff.
