TL;DR
Executive Underwriter, AIGRM (Commercial Casualty Insurance): Underwriting complex Workers’ Compensation, General Liability, and Auto Liability accounts while developing portfolio strategies, negotiating deal structures, and expanding broker relationships with an accent on US casualty products, risk selection, and market development. Focus on evaluating complex submissions, directing underwriting strategy, creating cross-sell opportunities, and negotiating pricing and terms with brokers and clients.

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; primarily office-based

Base salary: $104,600–$127,600 annually, plus eligibility for a bonus under the applicable incentive plan.

What you will do

  • Underwrite complex primary Casualty accounts across Workers’ Compensation, General Liability, and Auto Liability.
  • Develop and manage underwriting strategies for renewals and prospects, including plans to increase portfolio share.
  • Evaluate, prioritize, and select submissions while negotiating pricing, terms, conditions, and deal structures.
  • Build prospect lists, conduct sales calls, identify target markets, and create cross-selling opportunities.
  • Provide technical direction to management, less senior specialists, producers, and claims personnel.
  • Collaborate with brokers, Distribution, Territory Managers, claims, and other lines of business on client solutions and underwriting projects.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in a commercial insurance company, agency, or brokerage.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Advanced knowledge of US Casualty lines, including Workers’ Compensation, Auto Liability, and General Liability.
  • Experience building professional relationships and demonstrating sales, marketing, and relationship-building capabilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a results-oriented approach.
  • Expertise with underwriting analytical tools and technology, plus the ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
