Senior Life Underwriter (Life Insurance)

Location: Bloomington, Illinois, United States

Salary: $77,600–$106,700 base pay per year, plus eligibility for a short-term incentive plan.

What you will do

• Analyze life insurance applications submitted by financial representatives across all sales regions.
• Assign appropriate risk classifications within corporate underwriting guidelines.
• Review medical, occupational, financial, avocational, and lifestyle information and request additional requirements when needed.
• Approve, modify, or decline new and reinstatement applications for life, disability, and long-term care insurance.
• Communicate application status and requirements to financial representatives, clients, medical personnel, and internal support teams.
• Consult with leadership, medical directors, reinsurers, other underwriters, and corporate personnel, and may develop competitive underwriting guidelines.

Requirements

• 7+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of related experience, education, and training.
• Experience evaluating insurance risk and applying underwriting judgment.
• Ability to assess medical, occupational, financial, avocational, and lifestyle information.
• Professional, tactful, and empathetic communication with representatives, clients, medical personnel, and internal stakeholders.
• Ability to protect the privacy of clients’ personal information.
