Assistant General Counsel, North America (Insurance)

Location: New York, United States; primarily in the office

Base salary: $148,000–$185,000 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus under the applicable incentive plan.

What you will do

• Provide day-to-day legal, regulatory, transactional, and compliance advice to North America Alternative Channels executives and underwriters.
• Negotiate, draft, and review MGA, captive insurance, distribution, policy, endorsement, ancillary, advertising, and marketing agreements.
• Support the development of new insurance products and the establishment and governance of MGA and captive relationships.
• Research legal and regulatory issues affecting alternative-channel insurance products.
• Collaborate with Regulatory and GLCR colleagues on filings, regulatory inquiries, and consumer complaints.

Requirements

• 3–5+ years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal department.
• JD from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials.
• Admission to practice law in at least one state.
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, problem-solving, communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage competing priorities, and adapt to changing business needs.

Nice to have

• Experience with or willingness to develop deep familiarity with MGAs, captive insurers, and commercial property and casualty products.
• Knowledge of property, general liability, inland marine, commercial auto, professional liability, directors and officers liability, employment practices liability, crime, umbrella, or cyber insurance.
