TL;DR
Principal Rotordynamics Engineer (Gas Turbomachinery): Developing and evaluating lateral and torsional rotordynamic solutions for Solar’s gas compressor product line with an accent on advanced turbomachinery design, CFD analysis, and validation testing. Focus on improving rotordynamic prediction capabilities, troubleshooting vibration problems, and supporting complex compressor development across field, manufacturing, and test environments.

Location: San Diego, California; onsite five days a week

Salary: $120,600–$150,374 per year

What you will do

  • Perform lateral rotordynamic analysis of gas compressors using advanced engineering tools.
  • Improve rotordynamic prediction capabilities through steady-state and transient CFD analysis.
  • Support new product development and other compressor development programs within cross-functional teams.
  • Support complex compressor development, validation testing, and rotordynamic technology testing.
  • Provide field, test cell, and manufacturing support to troubleshoot and solve vibration problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in turbomachinery design.
  • Advanced knowledge of lateral and torsional rotordynamics.
  • Advanced knowledge of steady-state and transient CFD analysis, preferably applied to rotordynamics.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, accountability, teamwork, and strong interpersonal skills.

Nice to have

  • Graduate or postgraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Intermediate to advanced Fortran programming knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of finite element analysis methods.
  • Experience with vibration measurement, analysis, and diagnosis in testing, commissioning, or field service.
