TL;DR
Sr Principal Mechanical Engineer (Turbomachinery): Designing and analyzing proprietary high-speed rotating equipment and machinery support systems with an accent on FEA, rotordynamics, bearings, seals, and design for manufacturability. Focus on executing project and product-development designs, solving equipment and field issues through root cause analysis, and integrating turbomachinery into customer processes.

Location: Hybrid schedule with four days in-office at the Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, or Houston, Texas site; minimal travel under 10% for onsite customer support.

What you will do

  • Perform turbomachinery design analyses, including FEA for stress, deflection, and modal behavior, hand calculations, and rotordynamics.
  • Execute mechanical design work for awarded projects, product-development initiatives, aftermarket activities, and engineering evaluations.
  • Develop standardized product deliverables and engineering tools in collaboration with product owners and business improvement stakeholders.
  • Select components and materials, finalize equipment designs, review safety and operability, and approve manufacturing drawings.
  • Collaborate with customers and vendors on equipment design, process integration, technical solutions, and cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Support root cause analyses, field commissioning, startup activities, bid estimates, and equipment reliability initiatives.

Requirements

  • 10–15 years of experience designing turbomachinery or rotating machinery.
  • Deep knowledge of FEA, rotordynamics, bearing and seal technologies, and design for manufacturability.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to motivate teams, build trust, and maintain a customer-focused approach.

Nice to have

  • Advanced FEA or rotordynamic analysis experience.
  • Experience with fluid film, gas, magnetic, hydrostatic, or rolling-element bearings and gas or labyrinth seals.
  • Turbine testing, data acquisition, equipment startup, plant integration, 2D CAD, 3D modeling, or simulation experience.
  • Programming experience with VB, C#, C++, Python, Matlab, Fortran, or similar languages.
  • Advanced degree focused on turbomachinery, rotordynamics, bearings, seals, manufacturability, or manufacturing processes.
