Principal Mechanical Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Waltham, Massachusetts, United States; 10%–20% international travel required.

Salary: $135,000–$180,000 annually, plus an annual bonus structure.

What you will do

• Lead mechanical design and product release for high-performance actuator product lines, from architecture through manufacturing.
• Complete CAD designs and generate detailed drawing packages using GD&T and 1D/3D tolerance analysis.
• Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to optimize designs for assembly, cost, and long-term reliability.
• Mentor early-career and mid-level design engineers through technical guidance and design reviews.
• Manage technical risks through FMEAs, validation planning, and analysis of gears, bearings, seals, and shafts.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Typically 7+ years of experience in electromechanical product design and launch.
• Experience bringing complex electromechanical assemblies from architecture through production release in high-rigor environments such as automotive, aerospace, or medical devices.
• High proficiency in 3D CAD, preferably CATIA, and PLM systems.
• Strong experience with detailed documentation, GD&T, and tolerance stack analysis.
• Ability to lead cross-functional efforts, resolve ambiguous design challenges, and balance innovation with manufacturing constraints.
