Bridge Engineer, Inspector

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; full-time, onsite field and engineering work.

Salary: $104,402.58–$119,317.24 per year.

Bridge engineering work includes structural design and NBIS inspection leadership.

What you will do

• Lead or support the design and structural analysis of new highway, pedestrian, and railway bridges.
• Apply AASHTO LRFD and AREMA Manual for Railway Engineering requirements.
• Serve as the qualified Team Leader for NBIS bridge safety inspections.
• Direct field operations, safety protocols, and complex logistics including track time, flagging, and lane closures.
• Mentor junior engineers during bridge inspection site visits.

Requirements

• B.S. in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
• 8–15 years of progressive bridge design and inspection experience.
• Illinois Professional Engineer license required.
• Completion of NHI Course 130055 and current IDOT-qualified Bridge Inspection Team Leader status required.
• High proficiency in AASHTOWare BrR, LARSA 4D, MicroStation, and OpenBridge.
• Ability to work at heights, near active rail lines, and over water.
