Location: Washington, DC; regular in-person work at the employee site is required during scheduled business hours. Minimal travel by automobile to office sites may be required.

Salary: $19.82–$30.40 per hour. The hiring rate depends on experience, education, responsibilities, location, and performance.

What you will do

  • Educate patients on insurance coverage, benefits, co-pays, deductibles, out-of-pocket expenses, payment arrangements, and financial assistance programs.
  • Collect and verify insurance coverage and demographic information before treatment and at each patient visit.
  • Prepare patient cost estimates, reimbursement forms, liability forms, and related documentation for billing.
  • Obtain insurance pre-authorization or referral approval codes before treatment.
  • Review patient account balances, communicate required co-pay information to the front desk, and support accurate collection.
  • Maintain patient records, manuals, logs, forms, and documentation while following confidentiality and compliance requirements.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of insurance coverage, patient benefits, financial assistance, and healthcare revenue-cycle processes.
  • Ability to assess patients’ financial ability, explain costs clearly, and assist with payment or assistance-program forms.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities, exercise sound judgment, and maintain quality standards.
  • Ability to work in person during regularly scheduled business hours and interact with patients, coworkers, management, and clients.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk for extended periods, handle and lift patients, and occasionally lift or carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Compliance with confidentiality, state and federal requirements, and HIPAA guidelines for patient records.
